Farmer's Market Gold

I totally scored at the Hollywood Farmer's Market this past Sunday....while browsing, I saw the most beautiful Marigolds at a tiny stand...and scooped them up. But not before the lovely farmer womanning the stand told me these were Calendula, which have amazing anti-inflammatory properties....so good to know!

Here's a little beautiful science for you:

And my little golden stash:

Who's coming with me on the next Farmer's Market trip??

Friday Funday

So I had another last minute arrangement request yesterday (yay!!!), which had to be delivered at 7 am...meaning that I had to get to the market at an hour during which no one should be awake, in my opinion. All worth it though, since I scored these beauties at the market:

This will probably come as a surprise to absolutely no one, but none of the above made it into the ordered arrangement.

Speaking of which, making it was a treat in my new state of the art mobile floral studio. I'm so fancy you guys. Check it out:

How do you like that workstation?? I gotta say, it worked pretty well...especially since I had the Drink Of My People with me: the Seltzer that is featured so prominently above.

"Borrowed" Hydrangea

I may or may not have "borrowed" some Hydrangea from my landlord. Here's my booty (please get your mind out of the gutter):

But how could I resist?! Just LOOK at it:

Swoon. And here's the little arrangement I made with leftover Larkspur:

Hope you like it! And maybe will forgive me for being a flower borrower??

Bacheloretting

When I heard that a dear friend was having a bachelorette party, my first thought was "BILLY BALLS*... would look awesome in an arrangement, must make arrangements!" And make them I did!

My dear friend N. helped me make an entire flower train! Thanks for your help N!

And here's a peek at the individual arrangements...notice the balls ;)

* Yes, I know Craspedia is the fancy name for Billy Balls, but it doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Or the brain for that matter.

Belated Mother's Day Sale Post

Last Sunday I got together with the lovely Lili* for an impromptu street-side Mother's Day flower sale! It was very guerrilla style...once we hooked someone with our show-stopping table display, we had to sink them with our nimble fingers and create arrangements on the fly. (So many metaphors, but please stick with me). It was really fun to meet so many lovely people. They definitely reaffirmed that it's hard not to love flowers, and even harder to try and let them not to put a smile on your face.

It was a ROARING success... we were left with nada! We were almost a little bummed we didn't get to keep a little something to bring home...but that's just cause for another trip to the flower market!

El fin! Can't wait to have another sale with this cutie again soon!

* All photos in this post are by the uber-talented Lili as well!

Back from a floral expedition

Hi kids.

Olga here to tell you about my recent trip up to Portland...I was lucky enough to take a three-day wedding flower crash course with THE Françoise Weeks. As far as I'm concerned, everything Françoise touches turns to gold, and I have been inspired by her work for ages. I must admit I was a little star-struck upon meeting her. Of course Françoise turned out to be as sweet as can be, a fabulous teacher, and very generous with sharing all she has learned in her years in the flower business. You MUST check out her website, and her blog! And if you're ever in Portland, you have to stop by and say hello, or better yet, take a class with this treasure-trove of information. (Doesn't hurt that the class takes place in quite possibly the most adorable studio that ever existed.)

Here are a some of the arrangements I got to make during our class. I couldn't be happier with the results, and so happy to have had the pleasure of watching one of my idols at work. The only thing that could have made this trip better is if Lili had come with...but that's what next time is for!

On to the flowers!

My woodland arrangement:

A vase "network" arrangement:

Hanging cone arrangement:

Small handheld bouquet:

And the best gift I could dream of, a handful of Lily of the Valley:

Proper Introduction

I realized that I hadn't properly introduced myself! I am Olga, and I like to play with flowers.  Other flower addicts, please come over any time for a meeting.

And this is me:

You will note that I am a maiden, as I have Maidenhair Fern growing on my head. You should probably also note that this is the type of thing that makes me laugh, and I apologize in advance for any future pun-related crimes.

Coming back shortly with more updates,
